Is Society the Fairest it Has Ever Been?

Short answer: yes.

Even in this frenetic time of bullshit, inaccuracy, and fear, there has never been a greater period of more equal opportunity.

No longer do we need to appeal to a hiring manager with implicit biases — rather, we can take our own initiative and create revenue streams online. The internet isn’t racist. It isn’t sexists. It doesn’t care what you look like — okay, maybe it does care what you look like; It is people that drive the market after all and being good-looking is an advantage I haven’t had the good fortune of possessing.

We are moving towards an age of decentralized, free-markets. It may not seem that way, but when you zoom out you will see the parabolic rise of the internet. Decentralization is inevitable and no one can stop it (save a global catastrophe). Jobs are moving online. With automation, we will see a skyrocketing premium on creativity. The market will reward unique thinkers. The internet, at its best, is a free-market. A free-market is ruthless, but also the fairest system humans have so far developed. There is no arbiters of truth needed, just the market and people paying for things with their money.

Many people are claiming we live in a time of unjust inequality. I’d counter that and say look at the scope of our development: we live in, by far, the fairest time in human history.
